Why Cinnamon Shore? One Austin Couple’s Answer
Get to know one of our Founding Neighbors at Cinnamon Shore South and find out why they’re building a coastal dream home there.
Meet the Neighbors: Lavonne and Robert (Andy) Blalock, Texas natives and residents of Austin, married for 36 years
Texas Beaches They Grew Up Visiting: Andy’s family vacationed at Galveston, while Lavonne spent beach time at Rockport/Fulton.
How They Discovered Cinnamon Shore: A few years ago, Lavonne booked a Gulf-front home for the couple’s three adult daughters and their families to celebrate Andy’s 60th birthday. They’ve been back every year since. including last year for Lavonne’s 60th.
What They Loved About It: The Blalocks knew Cinnamon Shore was something new on the Texas Coast. “There had never been anything at the level of [Florida’s] Seaside or WaterColor in Texas,” Lavonne says. “I think Cinnamon Shore competes with those—and it’s so much more convenient, especially for our kids who have little ones.”
What They’re Building: After choosing a lakefront homesite that’s also near the beach crossover, the Blalocks are working with San Antonio architect and Cinnamon Shore homeowner Lynn Peters to design a custom beach home that will accommodate their extended family.
Who They’re Building For: The home will be a retreat for them and their three daughters’ families, including four grandchildren plus an additional grand due to arrive in April. “We have lots and lots of little ones—and the oldest is 5,” says Lavonne, looking forward to watching them grow up on beach vacations for years to come. In addition to guest rooms for all the adult couples, the house plan features two bunk rooms—one for the boys and one for the girls.
Move-In Date+ Rental Pool Ready: “We’re aiming for Thanksgiving 2021,” Lavonne says. From then on, their grand, beach home will be available for vacation rental when the family’s not gathered there making memories. “We plan to spend a lot of time there in the off season,” Lavonne says, noting they made sure to include a fireplace in the main living area and a designated work space to include a desk.
“We have a lot of confidence in what they’re doing at Cinnamon Shore. Texas needed something like this. We’re excited!” --Lavonne Blalock
